How a move begins with us

1. Tell us what is moving. A call, a message or our online form — give us the origin city, destination country, approximate volume and timing, and we take it from there.
2. Survey and scope. For household and office moves we conduct a survey — in person or by video. For freight we work from your cargo details. Either way you receive a clear, itemised quote.
3. Plan and document. Your coordinator builds the plan: packing dates, freight booking, shipping-bill preparation or commercial documentation, and any FEMA or customs steps relevant to your move.
4. Execute and confirm. Our crew packs, loads and dispatches. We update you at each stage and confirm completion directly — not through a call centre.

The India difference

Moving from India is not the same as moving from the Gulf or from Europe. Indian export customs — the shipping-bill process, RBI and FEMA requirements for certain high-value goods, the role of the Customs House Agent — are a distinct set of steps that reward experience. Our team has handled outbound moves from Mumbai (via Nhava Sheva / JNPT), Delhi and Bengaluru (air), Chennai and Kochi, and we understand what each gateway demands.

We are also honest about what cannot be simplified. Some goods are restricted for export; some destinations have import rules that require preparation months in advance. Which service fits your situation

Callers rarely open with a service name. They open with a situation — “we have sold the flat in Andheri and the new house in Whitefield is ready in June”, or “our buyer in Rotterdam wants the first consignment before the quarter ends”. The first job of the first call is translating that situation into the right service line, and it helps to see how the mapping works before you ask for a quote.

Two of these lines deserve a word of distinction, because they get confused on the phone. Freight forwarding is for commercial cargo — goods with a commercial invoice, a buyer and usually a repeating schedule; the shipper is a business and the paperwork is trade paperwork. International relocation is for personal and household effects, where the shipper is a person, the inventory is the key document, and the customs treatment is entirely different. Pricing one as the other is a classic way to get a wrong quote, and a surprising number of enquiries arrive having been quoted the wrong way elsewhere.

The table simplifies on purpose. Real moves cross these lines constantly, which is why the lines are run by one company rather than by six vendors who have never met — the point of the next section.

When one move needs two services

The combination we plan most often is emigration with a storage leg. A family leaving Chennai for Toronto sells the house in March but flies in July; the household is packed once, to export standard, held in our warehouse under a numbered inventory, and released to the container only when the sailing is booked. Packing once matters. Goods packed for a quick domestic shuffle and then repacked for export get handled twice, cost twice, and carry twice the risk.

Returning NRIs run the same sequence in reverse: a container inbound through Nhava Sheva or Cochin, customs cleared, and then a domestic delivery leg onward to Coimbatore or Pune, where the family has actually settled rather than where the ship happened to dock. Businesses combine differently again. An office relocation may pair a domestic move for the furniture and records with freight forwarding for saleable stock, and a manufacturer shifting a line will pair machinery moving with short-term warehousing while the new shed is fitted out.

Corporate programmes are the layered case. When an Indian company sends staff abroad, the moves arrive in clusters — several households, one HR contact, one billing arrangement and one standard of reporting. Those programmes typically draw on international relocation for each household, storage for the employees whose destination housing lags their start date, and occasionally freight forwarding when the company is sending office equipment in parallel. The service lines flex; the accountability does not.

You do not need to work out the combination before you call. Describe the situation as it actually is — dates, cities, what is moving — and the coordinator proposes the sequence. The quote then shows each leg separately, so you can see what every part costs and drop anything you decide you do not need.

How the quote is built, line by line

Household quotes start with a survey — in person for larger homes, by video walkthrough for smaller ones. What the surveyor is really doing is measuring volume, because Indian moving prices are driven by cubic feet far more than by weight, and spotting the items that change the method: a marble tabletop that needs a crate, a wardrobe that will not clear the stairwell, a split AC that needs de-gassing before it travels. Miss those at survey and they surface on moving day as delays and disputes; catch them and they are simply line items.

Freight quotes are built from the cargo specification instead: dimensions, weight, commodity, and the terms agreed with your buyer or supplier. Either way, the document you receive is itemised — packing materials and labour, transport or freight, customs and documentation where they apply, storage and transit insurance where you have asked for them. Execution closes with a proper GST tax invoice carrying our GSTIN and the applicable service accounting code, which is exactly what a corporate finance team, or an employer reimbursing your relocation, will ask to see.

Acceptance is where the quote turns into a plan. Your coordinator is assigned at that point — a named person, reachable directly — and the working documents follow: the packing date, the crew size, the vehicle or freight booking, and for international moves the customs preparation checklist with what we need from you and by when. Nothing in that plan should surprise you, because all of it was visible in the quote.

Two honest notes about comparing quotes. Freight rates move — sea and air pricing shifts with season and fuel — so every quote carries a validity window, and we will say plainly when a rate looks likely to move against you. And the cheapest number on the table is usually the least complete: check whether destination charges, lift and shuttle fees, and unpacking sit inside the figure or are waiting for you at the far end. In our quotes they are inside, or listed explicitly as excluded — never silent.

The Indian moving calendar

Demand for moving in India is seasonal in a way that repays a little planning. The heaviest stretch is April to June: school years close, job transfers take effect, and leases turn over, so crews and vehicles are committed earliest. The monsoon, June to September, does not stop moving but changes how it is done — waterproof wrapping becomes standard, loading happens under cover wherever a building allows it, and highway legs on the west coast carry buffer days.

Around Diwali the industry effectively pauses for the better part of a week, and wise schedules avoid straddling it. January to March is corporate season — fiscal year-end transfers and office relocations compete for the same crews as household moves, particularly in NCR, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Freight has its own rhythm layered on top. Sea rates out of Indian ports tighten before the Western festive season as export volumes climb, and air capacity out of BOM and DEL is scarcest exactly when passenger schedules peak. None of this should decide when you move — life decides that — but it should decide when you book.

Booking windows follow from all this. A domestic move books comfortably on two to three weeks of notice, with more in peak months. An international move wants four to eight weeks, so that survey, freight booking and customs preparation happen in their proper order rather than in a scramble. Less notice than that is workable — we do it regularly — but it narrows your choices on sailing dates and rates.

Can you handle both ends of an international move?

Yes. The Indian end — survey, packing, export customs, gateway handling — is run by our own team, and the destination end is delivered through our vetted partner network working to the same plan. Your coordinator in India stays your single point of contact until the goods are unpacked abroad.

Do you move small loads, or only full homes?

Both. A single wardrobe, a dining table or a small partial load is handled through our furniture and single-item service. What we are not is a courier — we do not carry parcels or price by the kilogram. If it is furniture or a household, however small, you are in the right place.

Which cities do you cover?

Domestic moves run between all major metros and most tier-2 cities, and international moves depart from any of them — goods are routed to the best-suited gateway, whether that is Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Chennai, Cochin, or air freight out of BOM, DEL or BLR. Origin city is almost never the constraint people expect it to be.

Is insurance part of the quote?

Transit insurance is offered on every quote and itemised separately, so you can see its cost against the declared value of your goods. We recommend it for any intercity or international move; the declared-value inventory we build during packing is what makes a clean claim possible if one is ever needed.

One more answer people rarely think to ask for: who you will actually be dealing with. A named coordinator, assigned when you accept the quote and reachable directly until the move closes out — the crews, the Customs House Agent and the destination partners all work to that coordinator’s plan. Twenty-plus years of running moves this way has convinced us it is the only structure that keeps a complicated move honest.
