Loading and the move

Coastal humidity is a slow, quiet problem. The answer is not more wrapping, it is the right wrapping: lined or vapour-barrier cartons with desiccant for the things that need it, ventilation for the things that do not, and nothing sealed damp. We set that at the survey rather than applying one specification to the whole house.
The monsoon, which is long and serious here
Kochi’s monsoon is not a shower that passes. Loading in it means the goods get wet unless the day is planned for water — covered loading where the building allows it, waterproof outer wrap rather than dust wrap, the vehicle sheeted and sealed properly, and enough flexibility in the schedule to pause through the worst of a downpour rather than push on and soak your furniture. We will also tell you honestly when a date is a bad idea.
Fort Kochi, Mattancherry and lanes the vehicle cannot enter
The heritage areas have narrow lanes, protected frontages and, in places, restrictions on when and where a goods vehicle may stand. In practice the vehicle parks at the nearest workable point and the goods come out on a manual carry, sometimes a long one. That is entirely normal and it must be priced in, which means the surveyor walks the approach before quoting rather than measuring only the rooms.
Towers at Kakkanad, and the water crossings
At the other end of the city the constraint is the ordinary one: booked service-lift slots, association NOCs and a refundable deposit. Worth knowing separately is that Kochi is split by water, and the bridges rather than the map decide the route — a move from Fort Kochi to Kakkanad is a longer drive than the distance suggests, and the schedule is planned on the real route.
Intercity moves from Kochi
Intercity work from Kochi runs mostly to the neighbouring southern metros, with a longer northern trade behind it. The regional routes are short enough to run in a day; the northern ones are not, and we quote them as the long hauls they are.

Do you provide storage if my new home is not ready?
Yes — and here that means ventilated, insured storage rather than a sealed room. Goods going into storage in this climate are packed to a different specification from goods going straight into a new house, which we set at the survey.
