Customs Clearance & Trade Compliance
Classification, valuation, documentation and clearance on both import and export — filed in-house through ICEGATE, not subcontracted to a broker.
Customs is where good freight goes to sit. A shipment can be booked perfectly and still lose a week at the border because a code was wrong, a value was questioned, or a licence that should have been applied for in advance was not. Clearance is the part of the chain with the least tolerance for guesswork, and it is the part we keep firmly in-house.
Our team files import bills of entry and export shipping bills through ICEGATE, India’s customs electronic gateway, and deals with the appraising officers directly. Because the people clearing your cargo are the same people who booked it, a query does not bounce between two companies — it lands with someone who already knows the shipment.
What you get with this service.
Classification
Correct HS classification of your goods — the code that decides the duty rate and whether any restriction or licence applies. Get it wrong and you either overpay or invite a dispute.
Valuation & duty
Assessable value worked out to customs’ rules, duty and IGST calculated, and any applicable exemption, drawback or remission scheme applied.
Documentation
The full entry set — invoice, packing list, bill of lading or air waybill, certificates of origin, licences — checked for consistency before filing.
Licences & compliance
IEC, AD Code registration, and any partner-agency clearance (FSSAI, drug controller, BIS, plant or animal quarantine) the commodity requires.
Why classification is the whole game
Every traded good has a Harmonised System code, and that code decides almost everything that follows: the rate of basic customs duty, whether IGST applies and at what rate, whether an anti-dumping or safeguard duty bites, and whether the goods need a licence or a partner-agency no-objection before they can clear. A plausible-looking but wrong code is one of the most common reasons a shipment is queried or reassessed months later, sometimes with a penalty attached.
We classify against the actual goods and their use, not against whatever code was on the last shipment, and where a classification is genuinely arguable we tell you so and document the basis for the one we file. That is what survives an audit.
Export incentives and import reliefs
Indian trade policy is full of schemes that legitimately reduce the cost of moving goods — duty drawback and RoDTEP on the export side, advance authorisation and EPCG for manufacturers, project imports and various exemptions on the import side. They are worth real money, and they all have conditions and paperwork. We flag the ones your shipment qualifies for and handle the filing, rather than leaving you to discover after the fact that you left a rebate on the table.
Questions we are asked a lot.
Do I need an IEC and an AD Code to import or export?
For commercial shipments, yes — an Importer-Exporter Code is the basic registration, and your AD Code (your bank’s authorised-dealer code) must be registered at the port of clearance before an export shipping bill can be generated there. If you do not have these yet, we will tell you exactly what is needed and help you get them in place.
What happens if customs queries my shipment?
A query — over classification, value, or a document — is normal and usually resolved quickly if it is handled by someone who knows the file. Because we clear in-house and deal with the appraising officer directly, we respond the same day rather than relaying messages through a third party. The delay-multiplier is not the query itself, it is a slow response to it.
Can you help if the goods need FSSAI, BIS or quarantine clearance?
Yes. Many commodities need a no-objection from a partner government agency — food from FSSAI, notified products from BIS, plant and animal material from quarantine, pharmaceuticals from the drug controller. These run alongside the customs entry and have their own lead times, so we flag them at enquiry, not at the port.
